JConfig talks to one specific vehicle bus. Check before downloading — it takes a minute and saves you the frustration.
On the head unit, open Settings and look for the system version. The firmware shows up as a code starting with G7PH; the SOP part tells you the generation. If in doubt, JConfig shows the OS version on its About screen once installed.

On the head unit, open Settings, go into the developer options and turn on USB debugging.
Use a USB data cable on the head unit port. Authorize the connection when the car screen asks, and confirm the device shows up in the list.
